The State of Nebraska receives over 57% of its income in the form of various State taxes. The State's largest source of tax income is from Income and Sales and Use taxes.

Contrary to belief, the State of Nebraska doesn't receive property tax dollars. Property taxes are assessed and collected on the local level by counties, cities and school districts.

The state also received 37% of its income in 2008-2009 from the Federal Government in the form of Grants and Contracts. These funds were used for various purposes, such as Medicaid, road construction, and public safety and awareness.
